How To Draw A Roof Plan
HOW TO DRAW A HIP & VALLEY ROOF
This is a guide on how to draw a hip and valley roof in 2d plan view. Roofs can go quite complex but hopefully the different means I show you how to approach the roof design may exist helpful.
All measurements shown are in mm (millimeters)
I recommend reading each instance to ensure you accept read all the data offered equally the same data is not repeated in each example.
Click on the examples below to view the tutorial on how to depict that roof design.
Example one | |
Plan View Fig.001 | Every bit you can see, this is a flooring plan layout of a business firm. 1 wall is 4000mm (4 metres) and the other 3000mm (3 metres). These can be whatever value but I take fabricated them unlike sizes for this exercise to work as intended. |
Plan View Fig.002 | To start drawing in the hipped roof, draw lines at 45 degree angles from all the points on the roof as shown in blue. The internal roof lines are called valleys and the external roof lines are the hips (as shown). As y'all can see, the 2 lines to the top left of the prototype are simply drawn in approximately. We will determine there length in the next step. All the other lines making up the hips tin can be calculated by joining them where they intersect. The exact point tin be calculated by drawing a point half the width of the wall, across, and up. |
Program View Fig.003 | In this step, we add in the ridge lines starting from where the hips that are established join. We tin now trim off the valley line and hip line lengths that were unknown from the previous step. |
Plan View Fig.004 | Now we tin can draw in the last hip to complete the roof. |
Plan View Fig.005 | This is the finished roof showing the fall direction of each of the roof planes. |
Example 2 | |
As you tin can see, this is a flooring plan layout of a firm based on the previous instance layout, merely with an extra piece added.
To first drawing in the hipped roof, draw lines at 45 degree angles from all the points on the roof as shown in bluish.
Now we can draw in the ridge lines every bit shown.
In this stride, I accept drawn in some dashed lines. The other 2 lines (the horizontal and vertical line) are there to make an imaginary box. These lines help to testify you where to offset the hips from. This is a adept method for working out roof designs. I always effort and piece of work out pieces of the roof into rectangles or squares to aid in working out roof line placement.
In this pace, we can draw in the hip lines and ridge line. Delete the temporary lines we drew in the earlier steps as shown dashed in red.
This is the finished roof showing the autumn management of each of the roof planes. |
Example iii | |
As you can see, this is a floor plan layout of a house based on the previous example layout, but with an extra piece taken out.
To start drawing in the hipped roof, draw lines at 45 degree angles from all the points on the roof every bit shown in blue.
Now we can depict in the ridge lines as shown.
In this step, I accept drawn in some dashed lines. The other 2 lines (the horizontal and vertical line) are in that location to make an imaginary box. These lines help to prove y'all where to showtime the hips from. This is a practiced method for working out roof designs. I e'er try and piece of work out pieces of the roof into rectangles or squares to assistance in working out roof line placement.
In this step, I have drawn in the hip (majestic colour) from the previous steps working out, and also deleted the temporary dashed lines from the previous step. In this step, nosotros have once more fatigued in the temporary lines of the hips and the vertica and horzontal lines for the imaginary box.
In this step, the hip lines have been fatigued in and the temporary lines shown in red can be deleted.
Now just draw in the ridge lines.
This is the finished roof showing the fall direction of each of the roof planes. |
Instance iv | |
As you can see, this is a flooring program layout of a house based on the previous case layout, but with an extra pieces taken out.
This fourth dimension we are going to approach the roof pattern a lilliputian differently. I have created a serial of coloured rectangles. Imagine each rectangle as its ain seperate roof.
Here I have started creating hip roofs from four of the coloured rectangles.
Now lets tackle the biggest rectangle, the greenish one. In this step I have added the hips and also valleys. In the next step, we volition merge the roof lines together. Some parts that are shown now that intersect wil need to be erased to form the proper roof line.
In this step, the dashed grey lines are to exist erased. The blue lines are the connecting pieces to merge the dissimilar roofs together.
Now we will work on the last rectangle. Add the hips and valley every bit shown.
Erase the grey dashed lines.
This is the finished roof showing the fall management of each of the roof planes. |
In improver to the data I provide for designing and drafting your own house, I accept some other side projection that tells you lot how long a house or land has been For Sale or Hire in Australia.
Information technology is also Free to Use and also has a search to give you lot a price range indication of business firm and land for auction that doesn't have a listed price.
